* These replicas are not what one might consider to be "museum quality." They are 'of the shape' and structurally as close as I was able to achieve. I have substituted materials as needed (e.g. synthetic "skins" instead of animal skins, which are not suitable for the climate I live in, and are mostly illegal to use). I have parted with some of these kayaks, and some have been recycled. I do not sell replicas or take commissions to build replicas. These replicas have been built for research purposes-- specifically to help me understand the construction and forming methods used by the original Unangan, Yuit, Yup'ik, Sugpiaq, Inupiaq, Koryak, Chukchi, Inuit, Inuhuit, and Kalallit/Greenlandic builders. Further, the ability to also use kayak replicas based on specific historic forms has great value in helping me understand how their performance characteristics were optimized for the variety of conditions and susbsistence pursuits they were designed for. The experience I have gained from building and using these kayaks directy feeds into my still limited understanding of these craft, and in turn has helped tremendously in researching and writing about kayaks.
