Chinese Tub Boat from Anhwei Province, Nanking Vicinity.
Purchased from an Antiquities Importer in Portland, Oregon in 2009.
Dealer noted the boat is ~80 years old.
Length: 6'4"
Beam: 32"
Depth at Mid Point: 13-5/8"
Depth at bow: 16"
Beam at bottom: 30-1/4"

The construction is very similar to that doucumented by Douglas Brooks in his book about
Japanese Tub Boats from Sado Island. It is built like a cask or barrel, and the hoops are of
woven or braided bamboo or rattan. This example has proper stems, unlike the Sado Island
boats and unlike the Chinese tub boat illustrated in James Hornell's "Water Transport" (plate XVIII).
