Qajaq USA is a local branch of the official Greenland Kayak Association. Its web-page is a wealth of information and resources, and it hosts a very active forum dealing with pretty much all aspects of traditional kayaks (use, construction, history, future, etc.). If you have a question about traditional kayaks, this is the place to ask it. Qajaq USA also hosts regional events and skills get-togethers.

JOHN HEATH'S
GREENLAND
KAYAKING VIDEOS

The kayak historian John Heath produced several video/DVDs of Greenland kayaking techniques demonstrated by Greenlanders. These videos are an excellent source for Greenland paddling and rolling techniques.
The book "Kayaks of the Eastern Arctic" by John Heath and Eugene Arima is now available. This book has many contributing authors and covers many aspects of traditional kayaking. It is also the first book I have been published in: I have 12 Greenland kayak survey drawings in my chapter-- several of these kayaks are featured on my "Replicas" page.
BAIDARKA LIST The Baidarka list is a group more focussed on (but not limited to) the Alaskan side of the kayaking tradition. The list and its archives are full of valuable information.
Douglas Brooks studies and builds traditional Japanese wooden watercraft-- often learning from among the last craftsmen familiar with such boat-types. His articles in Wooden Boat magazine and Maritime Life and Traditions are superb reading, as is his book on the Tub-Boats of Sado Island. Brooks' other nautical talents and skills are also on his web-page.
This is the link to Skip Snaith's web-page "Kayak Way." Skip is the author of the inspiring instructional book "Umiak." In January 2005 Skip published an hour-and-a-half DVD on kayak design-- it has animation, on-the-water shots of various kayaks, and interviews. It has a strong emphasis on hand-made and self-designed/traditional inspired kayaks. Several of my kayak replicas (and pets!) are featured. Many photos from Skip's travels and projects in Alaska are also on his web-page.
John Kohnen's links page is the "How to find Everything" resource for nautically-inquiring minds. Indexed topics make the pursuit for knowledge quick and easy.
Sean Gallagher's Web-Page. Sean builds King-Island kayaks for commission in Washington State. He is descended from King Islanders and is hoping to take his building and teaching skills back to Alaska.
Brian Schultz's Project web-page. This page features a very incredible sailing outrigger canoe project that I helped a bit with. Brian also is an avid skin-on-frame kayak builder with innovative and tested original designs.
78 rpm Record Labels . . .? Why not. Ted Staunton's remarkable assembly of record labels and associated ephemera. A very focused museum of early-to-mid 20th century graphic design. Some examples from my own collection are featured in his "guests" section.
ARCTIC KAYAKS David Zimmerly's web page featuring many of his writings and articles as well as an extensive bibliography.
AGE OF SAIL Great photographs of various tall ships on the West Coast taken by a gentleman who captained one. Also, historical nautical engravings, and other salty miscellany.
