REPLICA OF AN

INUIT KAYAK FROM EAST HUDSON BAY, NUNAVIK.
Provenance Unknown; ca. 1950s-60s?
Likely from Puvirnituq or Inukjuaq.
Original at the Canadian Canoe Museum,
Peterborough, ON.

16'10" long x 27" wide.

The ribs of the original were made from bent wood. I wasn't able to bend the ribs that acutely without breaking them, so I used pieced-ribs, made from three straight pieces, nailed at the bilge. This method is also used in kayak construction in this region, and was present in another kayak at the Canadian Canoe Museum.
