"STRAITS OF ST. DAVID" KAYAK

This replica was based on a drawing from the 1700s titled "From the Straits of Saint David. . . A Canoe." The drawing has been published in Adney & Chappelle's "The Bark Canoes and Skinboats of North America" (1964:175, fig. 157). The "Straits" are apparently Davis Straits. Its length is 21'6", the breadth is 25-1/2", and the depth is 8-1/4". I built this replica at Clyde River, Baffin Island, Nunavut in 1996, where it remains to this day.
